Born in Messina in Sicily, Rotoletti studied photography at St Mary’s College and the London Polytechnic. In the mid 1980s he moved to Milan, where he turned to photojournalism and reportage, frequently using the portrait as a means of narrative, often in black and white, and often addressing subjects of social interest.
The period 1985 – 1990 was particularly fruitful and saw him exhibiting frequently, both individually and with others. In the 1990s he became seriously interested in photo portraiture, and over a period of fifteen years has become one of Italy’s most highly appreciated professionals in this field, photographing many famous names from the worlds of culture, business, finance and entertainment. More recently, besides portraits commissioned by major information magazines (such as Corriere Magazine, Vanity Fair, etc) he has also undertaken wide-ranging works such as Faces of Wisdom (portraits of some 40 Italian philosophers) and Faces, Tales – a work which pictures some of the guests at Don Colmegna’s charitable institution Casa della Carità in Milan.Another of his important work, “Barbieri di Sicilia”, was published in book form in 2007.
