Choir of the Mondine of Novi

They used to sing bent over the water to feel less fatigue. Later, from the seventies of the twentieth century, they began to sing in a choir that gradually became increasingly famous, to the point of boasting countless performances and notable collaborations, such as those with Paolo Fresu and the Modena City Ramblers. From grandmothers to granddaughters, this choir’s history is still very much alive (www.mondinedinovi.it). In this project, commissioned by Vanity Fair in 2009, these generous and very likeable ladies return to the rice fields and to… laughter. No “Riso amaro” (bitter rice, but also bitter laugh), but a gallery of light-hearted, amusing pictures that document once more these women’s temperament as tireless and combative workers.
