In the mid-80s, when I took these shots, photographing the poor, or those fringes of people marginalised by our consumeristic society, already seemed antiquated or useless.
Here below are some extracts from the preface that Roberta Valtorta wrote for this project’s exhibition catalogue, displayed at the Museum of Milan in 1989.
“… the elderly, the foreign immigrants, the youth, the cumbersome presence of advertising in the urban landscape: these themes that Armando Rotoletti tackles gradually as he photographs the city indicate an awareness to issues such as marginality, diversity, change.
